Help me configure GTX 295 , thanks! - Page 2

You're welcome.

You could run the fan fan at 100% all day if you wanted to. I just keep mine on auto. My gaming temps reach about 70C max, and the card idles around 43C. What kind of temps are you getting?

As far as overclocking, I have noticed a slight improvement in BFBC2. I play with all settings maxed out, and my movements through the game are definitely smoother. Although, you could also easily play just about any game out there at stock settings and enjoy it. Since you just got your card, give it a good test run. You'll know soon enough if you'll want to try overclocking or not.

I never had the tools to check my temp on the card, but now I do. I just touched it with my hand and noticed it was reallllly hot. I will play some more Starcraft 2 with fan on auto and see what the results are. What is too high of a temp?

Yeah, all my games are running awesome now! I love it. GTX 295 FTW!!

Glad you're loving it!! NVIDIA claims the max temp to be 105º C. What temps are you seeing while gaming?

Hehe, I'm at work right now but I will test it out when I get home.

Which Nvidia driver version are you using? Also, how do you know when someone posts something on this? I just refresh the page lawl.

I'm using version the beta version 257.15. It seems to fix a screen flickering problem I was having in Battlefield Bad Company 2 with 197.45 drivers. It also fixed a problem I was having with my overclocked settings. By default, the NVIDIA cards run in an "Adaptive" Power Management Mode. You'll find that setting in the NVIDIA Control Panel under "Manage 3D Settings". The Adaptive power mode reduces the card's clocks when at idle to save power. You'll see slightly lower temps as well. When the card becomes stressed, it pushes the clocks up to their maximum for the best performance. When I was coming out of BFBC2, the clocks on one of the GPU's weren't dropping back down. Now they are. Performance wise, I don't notice a difference between the two, but if you read the release notes, the 257 drivers claim to increase performance in several games.

The 295 Co-op style card should run at perfectly acceptable temps w/o even touching the fan speed control yourself. The profile should be set up to ramp the fans up to 100% at just over 80C. Those cards are perfectly fine up to about 93C.

Bottom-line, unless you're seeing temps over 90C on the auto fan profile (or you just really like the sound of a loud fan with no practical benefit) you should just leave it alone. The fan profile on those cards is a perfect noise/temp balance IMHO. I had one for about 6 months, and never worried about temps one bit using the auto profile.

My Co-Op OC'd to 712c/1512s/1242m (aka 2484MHz effective) stable ... again, w/o touching the fan speed myself.

Okay, thanks for the info brettj. I was monitoring the temps and it never went above 70C. I was just afraid because when I touched it, it was really hot.

I can see you got those GTX480 for the Dell cheap price. They actually made a mistake on the site but still gave it to the people who ordered it. You bastard.
