Wanting to over clock AMD Phenom 9750...

Thread Starter
I'm completely new to this but have been reading around and want to give it a shot.

Specs:
Amd Phenom 9750 (2.40ghz)
8gb DDR2 Ram
Gigabyte MA785GM-US2H
ATI Radeon HD 5770
500GB HDD

Also my case has good air cooling with 4 200mm fans and is very well ventilated if that matters.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The CPU is not a Black Edition so any overclocking must be done via the system bus. The best thing to start with is checking how high you can run the system bus on the board. Go into the BIOS and start raising the system bus to about 225. Change your CPU multiplier to a lower setting to keep it at stock for the time being but then raise the NB voltage and check for stability using a program like Prime95. If the blend test in Prime95 runs for a few hours, stop the test and then go back into the BIOS and raise the system bus further. If the test fails after you have raised the system bus (within a few hours) then raise the NB voltage again and re-test for stability.

The limit for the NB voltage should be around 1.3v so see how high you can get your system bus within 1.3v on the NB. Once that is stable and can pass 12+ hours of Prime95 blend test, go back into the bios and start raising your CPU multiplier. At this point you will have to start adjusting CPU voltage if unable to pass Prime95 for several hours. I would suggest that you raise the CPU multiplier by .5 after you have a stable system bus OC. This will increase the CPU speed at a smaller ratio for testing purposes.

It might also be a good idea in the meantime to set your RAM divider as low as possible so the RAM is not being overclocked in the process. That is something you can get to after you have worked out your system bus and CPU overclocks.

EDIT: Here is a really good guide located in the AMD - General section that you can use.

I have a 9750 oc'd to 2.9ghz so far and i am trying to push it past the 3ghz mark. but the main thing when ocing these is that you have to have good ram which you will have to lower the speed on through the FSBRAM in the bios. also i have my voltage at 1.35 for the cpu and and the RAM is rated at 800mhz and is down to 667 for stability. It isnt that hard to oc it first time on stock voltage i got it to 2.7.

Good luck with it
