Q9650 + 780i FTW = speedstep-age :(

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

Just wondering if there are any other settings in BIOS I should be aware of in the 780i ftw motherboard that would mean my q9650 would keep throttling itself?

I've turned of the obvious thermal throttling and speedstep itself yet still the various measurement tools I'm using report the frequency bouncing up and down along with the multiplier....it also coincides with heavy activity that might be tasking the cpu. Highly annoying! Please help

EIST should be turned off. There are actually two settings in the BIOS that will allow the CPU to lower the multiplier, I forget what the second one is called.

Makre sure you have all of the Spread Spectrum settings disabled, as well as C1E Enhanced Halt State/CPU Thermal Control/Virtualization Technology/Execute Disable Bit disabled and you shouldn't have any CPU throttling problems if you've disabled SpeedStep already (I had a 780i)
