How much money do you think I have? I'm looking to spend £170 and you recommend a £350 card.
(Also thinking that an x850xt would be my cheaper choice as I don't think the 6800gs can beat it by anything worth bothering with its 12 pixel pipelines compared to the x850xt's 16. If I'm paying more I will buy the leadtek 7800gt which is now only £187, just £10 more than the 6800gs)

A x850xt will beat a 6800gs in terms of fps in pretty much every single game other than Doom 3 and Quake 4. Even that highly oced one with 512 mem wouldn't be able to keep up. I would say that you should go with the x850xt because its extra power might allow you to play smoothely at a higher resolution or with more Antialiasing or Antistropic filtering.
