New Sound Card Super duper

Thread Starter
Ok guys I need some advice on a new card of sound for my computer.

This is what I am looking at:
HT Omega Claro Halo 7.1 Channel PCI Sound Card 24BIT DTS Dolby Digital Live W/ 120DB Headphone AMP

I want to know if this is a good deal, or if there is something else I can get that will be equal or better.

What I will be using this for is listening ot music with audiophile headphones, gaming, movies, as well as outputing and inputing sound to and from a TV/Console/Surround sound Amplifier.

My current setup is my computer hooked up to my 40inch HDTV which I watch movies on, but I also have a seperat monitor that I use to game on.

I think the Omega Striker might be a better buy. Are you a Audiophile? If not, don't even bother with this, and just get a run-of-the-mill Audigy 2 and tune the EQ.

Well I use a pair of HD550's to listen to music and quality does matter in this. But how much a differance would you say this card will make?

While that's a nice sound card, I believe the STX is slightly better (slightly cheaper as well), especially for headphones. (Maybe Chinesewiki might say otherwise).

Of course if gaming isn't too high of a priority I would look into getting a DAC since it'd give you great quality sound for a cheaper price.

http://ncix.com/products/?sku=35724&...nufacture=ASUS

If you have surround speakers or something that you use more than headphones, STX might not be your best bet. Just depends what you use the most.

HT Claro+ is a good sound card though.

Omega Striker is NOT better than the Claro though.

Would also suggest you move up from the HD550s if you want to maximize your new sound card/DAC.

You're advising him to get lesser quality equipment? :|

OP, I'd say that the Claro+ is a very good card, though like Simca said, if your use is going to be exclusively with headphones, I'd get the STX, no question.

If music is 80% or above your main priority, I too would suggest a USB DAC like the Musiland Monitor 02, which is around $130 for you guys shipped (though it's from China on ebay) but is apparently of much higher quality than the Xonar STX - the best computer sound card - even when the Xonar's OPAmps have been upgraded.

Oh, you'll do absolutely fine with the HD550, I thought you were one of those people with Stax headphones or something, seeing as you are willing to spend ~$200 on a card. Definitely just get a Audigy, you won't be dissapointed, and make sure to install the KX Audio 3rd party drivers.

Thing is though that I use opticle cables alot to get HD sound from my computer to me speaker. I didn't see an optical jack on that one, unless I'm missing something. I guess I could use the coaxial for that though.

Although music is a high priority, gaming and movies is also important because this will also act as a media PC.

What? The Stax SR-007 are some of the best headphones you can buy. The HD550s are nothing great. Why on Earth would he get a CRAPPY Audigy?

Don't listen to this suggestion OP.

I had the same question. I'm looking to get a sound card for my upcoming build. I'd probably be using 5.1 speakers and a gaming headset, would prefer high quality audio since shatty sounding music/movies and gaming bothers me.

What are you talking about? The OP does NOT have a Stax.

Because for his uses he doesn't need a $250 sound card, especially with a HD550.
