What's the max you would do with stock cooler

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I have an E8400 E0 with a VID of 1.2625v which is awful in my opinion... I used to be a hardcore overclocker but I went into the hospital last year and i really lost interest in computers. So for now I have my sig rig but I'm thinking I'm bored of leaving my E8400 at 3.0GHz.

Right now all i have is the stock intel heatsink so I don't think i can go too far.

I just tried 400x9 for 3.6GHz at 1.27v and all seems well, i'm going to run prime95 and linx on it and maybe occt.

So my question is what's the max temp a E8400 wolfdale could take? Also what do you guys think of my rig I know it's probably dated, but it suits me well as it plays all the games I want at 1920x1200.

Thanks a bunch

max temps are around 85c

Try not to go over 80.

You might be able to hit 3.8 if youre lucky

Those Wolfdales don't like high temps. I'd try to keep it down below 60c, but I'm rather persnickity about my temps.

What this guy said. Keep it under 80*C. Preferably, uncer 75* max load.

Don't drink the kool aid. The wolfdales can take sustained temps well above that....and for years!

Don't drink this koolaid either.

OP. If you buy yourself a decent $20 aftermarket socket 775 cooler, you should have no problem hitting 3.8 or 4.0 (450x9) and stay well under thermal max. Make sure you have a competent power supply before attempting. The bump in cpu power and fsb will make your gaming happy!

Both of my e8400's have sustained temps well into the 70's. I used to run at 495x9.5 at 4.5 Ghz and I hit the 70+ mark daily. I am still running this chip today, and it performs flawlessly.

My current setup at 4.25, I idle in the high 30's and peak in the low 60's. On the warmest days of the year I may creep up to 68 under load.

I would go with the megahalems or a h50. but as far as temps with stock, don't go over 70.
