New rig, freezes at boot.

Thread Starter
My first problem with this rig was that the PSU fan didn't spin. Next my new motherboard freezes in the bios.

Well I've done the following
  • cleared cmos
  • changed PSU to a new one
  • changed CPU
  • changed ram
  • changed video card
  • Switched CPU's between motherboards.

I think I've got in narrowed down to the motherboard and PSU being faulty. Seem logical?

I'll throw in another set of ram. The set I was gonna use, Im using now so I know thats not bad.

Strip it down to the bare minimum.

Sounds like goverment project...

Sounds almost easier to scratch the whole thing and start over.
One stick of ram might do it to test, Also check to be sure the ram is compatible with the mobo.

Are you able to attempt to re-flash the BIOS or does the BIOS freeze almost immediately after getting into it?

I just RMA'd the board. BIOS freezes within 10 seconds.

My money is on the PSU being faulty or insufficient. Have you unplugging all of these before booting:
- Your second hard drive
- Any disk drive
- Second stick of RAM
- Any USB peripherals

I know you probably have tried all of this already, but I'm just brainstorming at the moment.

Edit: Hmmm... I just noticed you said you tried a different PSU. How much power did that one put out?

Also I wonder what PSU it was. Maybe it was a weak one?

400w Corsair in Sig, but I obviously used a different video card.

Lol hell no. Its a Seasonic X-650w. The PSU is fine, I've tested it.

Sent the mobo in today. That should do it. I may buy new RAM just in case. I'll put the old sticks in my sig rig.
