GTS 250 OC 1GB questions/overclocking advice

Thread Starter
These are the specs on the card overclocked out of the box(see below) and I was wondering how much more I could overclock it without damaging it. Since it's overclocked out of the box and I don't have any experience overclocking GPU's, I'm not sure how much more I could push it without it overheating on me. I don't have any extra cooling for the GPU. What is the max temperature It can withstand and also, what software do you guys recommend for overclocking this specific card. Thanks

if you can use it, I'd say MSI afterburner is the best for OCing video cards. But Rivatuner is pretty much the same thing in a less pretty skin.

Just google what temps you should be running, but I'd personally say don't go above 80C just cause i know my 9800gt's were rated to 115C

Cool thanks, I'll see if MSI afterburner will work for me.

Edit: Thanks! MSI afterburner works! Also, turns out the fan speed of my graphics card is only set to 35%?! So apparently it has some hidden cooling possibilities I was unaware of. How far do you think I can push the card on core clock, shader clock and memory clock, and what is going to give me the must noticeable difference in performance, especially FPS?

Each card is different when OCed, but you could probably reach 790Core 1300Mem 1950Shaders. Most noticeable would be the core/shader speed, but if you OC the core/shader high enough the memory speed starts to become important, too.

If I set the core/shader and memory to those settings you suggest dragosmp, do you think it will be stable? Also, what temperature should I worry about my GPU being too hot? Also, I am going to up the fan speed for sure, it's at 35% right now, so I figure if I run it at like 75%-100% I should be able to shave off a few degrees.

edit: I went on nvidia's website and I looked up specs for the gts250 and it gave this Maximum GPU Temperature (in C)105 C

So I should be okay to experiment with those settings wish me luck, I'm going to try it now.

800core/2300 memory shouldnt bee problem with your card
