Time to choose a smartphone :O

Thread Starter
Well, I've been looking for a nice smartphone lately, only problem is: the best smartphone out there are only for networks like Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile and here in Mexico, the best 3G carrier we have is Telcel (I HATE THIS PLACE!! ugh!) which, unfortunately uses the AT&T UMTS bands (850/1900MHZ), which leaves me with few options.

I've been somewhat interested on the iPhone 3GS, specially because of the apps that can extend it's functionality, and I saw the iPhone 4 today, but TBH it's not as good as I expected it to be :/.

What I need right now on a smartphone is the following:

* It needs to work with Telcel's 3G bands. (850mhz and 1900 mhz)
* It needs to have a good main camera with Flash (mostly that it takes high quality pictures).
* It needs to record video, at least on DVD quality
* It needs to have Wifi (if it has Wifi N, much better! that's not really needed though)
* It needs to be fast (fast as: iPhone or Android device, if there's a WinMo or Blackberry device that can do this, great!).
* It needs to have assisted GPS. If possible, a digital compass as well but it's not really needed.
* It needs to have expandable memory (like a micro SD slot or something)
* It needs to have Bluetooth and be capable of sending files over this network protocol (I'm pointing at you iPhone!! ¬_¬).

I've been thinking about getting a used 16GB 3GS because of the following apps as well, and because it meeds most of the requirements above:

* SoundHound (I really need something as good as this!)
* Documents To Go (A great app for editing office documents while away from home)
* Skype (I know it's on most of the mobile OSes lol)
* Opera Mini (Same as above)
* Beejive (Well, it's the best IM app out there for the iPhone)

I'd like you guys to reccomend a device that meets the requirements listed above, and, mention what operating system they use, and what alternatines they have to the iPhone apps I listed above.

I really need your help on this one, because there are too many options out there, but I don't know which one is the best for me :/

Thanks!

EDIT: I found out that there are apps that can let me do the things I listed about on other phones, like in Blackberry devices, which means that the iPhone is not an option. I hope you can understand :/

I know, but if there's a better option out there, I'd like to know about it.

You know I'm gonna suggest the iPhone 4 too. We don't have them in hand to do video and camera tests but It sounds like it's gonna be pretty good. And the iMovie on iPhone app is gonna be a cool video editing app.

I used to be annoyed that it didn't have a hard disk mode for file storing and what not but you know I just carry a usb thumb drive on my keychain that's 16GB and That solves the expandable memory and file sharing over wifi/bluetooth problem. It's TINY too. Actually too tiny.

As for needing to expand it's internal memory I honestly don't think I'll need more then 32GB. It's more than any other smartphone out there I think and since I carry the cheap jump drive I've got zero issues.

I know what your thinking you wanna take more video/music around with you. I thought about that too but the thing is if you need more then 32GB (which is like 300 CD's) then your gonna be a heavy user of the iPod app and your probably gonna wanna have a separate iPod for that. I really need to keep my phone on me and not across the house playing music. I find myself constantly having to go pick up my phone while its playing music and disconnect it and use it for other things like texting, maps and what not and really wishing I had a separate ipod so I could just leave it along and let it play music while I do other **** and keep my phone in my pocket. And when you don't have your iPod around...hey you've got 32 GB of music on your phone + Pandora, Slacker, Last.fm..

So I suggest rocking the iPhone 4 and perhaps picking up a large iPod for your whole music collection and a USB drive and put it on your keychain and you'll be set.

Don't forget that later this summer Netflix streaming over 3G is dropping on the iPhone too

Wish ATT didn't have that data cap they're insisting on forcing us to adopt. That and my parents wont switch carriers.

T-Mobile didn't have reception at our house surrounded by trees about 8 years ago
Verizon double charges on bills (family friend and relative)
Sprint: they don't know much about and they wont let a single line on a family plan have data. All phones or nothing which is way too expensive

And they refuse to switch -.-

Anyone know when the Galaxy S will be released for ATT?

Guys, I'm bumping this thread, and I want to remind you that, I'm from Mexico, so I don't worry about the carrier thing, I'll be using Telcel anyway.

So what options do I really have at this moment? and what phones are coming? I wanna add something else: The iPhone are NOT an option anymore.
