Flash my new 5850.

Thread Starter
my 5850 runs at 900mhz and after testing with heaven, it never reached over 61c and the fan was at 60% max. i want to flash this card bios to a different one that has a higher voltage. the post here is the same situation i am in.

i have never flashed a video card before. i googled this, and found many outdated ones. anyone care to point me in the right direction?

ps: whats the chance of frying my video card?

You could edit the bios already on your card with Radeon Bios Editor.

that card is non-reference so you cant flash to a different BIOS, if you did you would brick the card

these should help you out:

http://www.overclock.net/ati/705075-...ence-card.html

If your card is indeed a reference card (first link) then you can check out the second link.

the OPs card is 100% non-reference
EDIT@ I checked the link in the OP and you can flash to that 5870 BIOS as it is the same non-reference design, use the instructions in the second link on the post above this one but instead of using the 5850 BIOS in that link use the 5870 in the OP link.

QFT- completely non-reference
the only thing that might work ( I dont have the card and have not tried flashing a non-reference card) is flashing with the 5870 bios, but that may be kind of hard to determine. TechPowerup has only 1 gigabyte 5850 bios on there....and its clocks look like this..

I wouldn't risk it man, that last thing you wanna do is brick that card by mistakingly flashing it with a reference bios..
