I think Torchlight is a more or less successful Diablo-like, I keep hearing that it's addictive so you should take a look.

If you don't like Modern Warfare 2 because of its pace, then Modern Warfare 1 is only a bit slower, though the latter has a lot of better things (such as dedicated servers). The older CoDs and CoD5 (I don't even know if that one is on PC) are set in WWII so I'm guessing they're slower paced, but I don't know if the CoD3/2/1 communities are active.

BC2 is the other top FPS nowadays, and it has 2 modes of play which are quite different. Hardcore's less running around and more thoughtful advancing, while normal is twice the health so at medium range everyone just basically runs and jumps around shooting each other, it looks more like Quake than a modern combat game. It's also objective-based and team/squadplay based which makes it a lot more interesting (and potentially frustrating).

Well i've been gaming on pc for the most part of the last 10 years. Now some of the games i mention may be relatively old, but they are such awesome games.

Ok, first off we'll begin with fps/action sort of games. If you're looking for multiplayer games - and by the sound of it you're not into twitchy/realistic fps games like mw2 or BF:BC2.
Team Fortress 2
That being said i would advise you to check out Team Fortress 2. Its very much like quake games in sense that its not based upon hiding/sniping sort of thing and twitchy reactions. Its pretty much just run-and-gun.
Unreal Tournament 3
This is also a great game, its recent expansion was the Titan pack which added a new Greed mode. Greed is such an addictive mode, specially when you play with alot of people.
Half life series
This is notoriously one of the best fps games ever. Though mostly based on single player, it does also have a multiplayer mode. If you do go for this, definately buy the Orange Box value pack - by far the best deal ever! You get a ton of great games (which includes the whole halflife series, cs and a bunch of other games).
Left 4 Dead 1 & 2
Some have already mentioned this, but its a great game. Unlike the other games i mentioned its mostly based upon coop (similar to borderlands). Killing zombies is fun though i own both

Ok so moving onto games more based around single player FPS. I'd Strongly advise you to check out:
Mass Effect 2
This is more of a mix of RPG and shooter. ME2 is a spectacular game - i mean its got aspects of sci fi, great storyline, great characters, imaginative universe, very fun weapons to select from and overall its just an awesome game. Also from what i hear, is that they will be coming out with a multi player mode - some say it could be an expansion to ME2 some say its for ME3 which is supposedly coming out next year.
Deadspace
Another awesome shooter is Deadspace. Its single player completely, but oh my god! The experience you will have in this game is just crazy. Its like a survival horror/fps game set in space. It has you starting the game with you answering to a distress call from a ship. You go there only to realise that its heavily damaged. Going in with a rescue team you soon realise that everyone on the ship is dead. But as you look for clues as to what happend a deeper plot kind of unravels. And you gotta fight your way through dark corridoors full of mutated aliens. I very much nearly soiled myself while playing this game Amazing experience none the less.

In terms of MMO's i'd stronly advise EvE online.

*edit*
If you rather not read anymore just watch this trailer - says everything about eve in that on video:

YouTube- EVE Online - Butterfly Effect Trailer HD

Tens of thousands of players with a myriad of solar systems to explore. You got hundreds of different spaceships, pirates, wormholes to explore, massive pvp playerbase. Plus you can actually play for free - there is a monthly fee of $15 sub but you can buy ingame time with ingame currency. You'll 100% be able to save one up after a couple of months of casual play - some do it even quicker. I've been playing eve for about 9 months now, only actually paid for 2.

Anyway, i've rambled on enough You might wanna check some trailers out for more insight of the games.

Ooh yeah totally forgot about TF2, yeah the combat is a bit like Quake but with less explosive weapons but with teamplay.

In terms of RPG, has anything stepped into the shoes of Diablo II? I played that game like a psycho, WoW only held my interest for about 2 weeks.. Are MMO the only games like that going? Sacred 2 is great for killing and leveling but there are literally Zero people online..
Get Mass effect and Mass effect 2. Great RPG game!!

Well, keep on passing by, because that game gets old fast. It's pretty much 5 campaigns that are barely worth playing.

Just Cause 2 - although is on consoles as well is a tons of fun! It's an open world and you can go anywhere, fly planes, helicopters, motorcycles, cars and parachute anywhere! I mean you can fly your plane to like 30,000 feet and just free fall it's super fun! YouTube- YEEEEEAAAAAAAHHH (Just Cause 2 demo stunt) that video is just from the demo! You can download the demo on steam, also, right now it's on sale at target for 29.99

Starcraft 2- Althought not out until July 27th, It is an epic game!(I've played the beta ) Also, if you pre-order it at gamestop they give you a beta-key (the beta is closed at the moment so they can prepare the servers before the release, but they are bringing it back around late June I believe)

APB - I got a chance to play the demo for this game as well and it is really really fun! It comes out on June 29th but if you pre-order it on steam you get to play it as early as june 10th! It is pretty much GTA MMO (in all fairness the original creator of GTA is in charge of this game) everything is customizable and it is just all out fun! YouTube- All Points Bulletin (APB) - E3(09) Offical Trailer (Extended version)
Also, there is TF2(older but fun!) and BC2

Good luck in finding a PC game for you (oh and I forgot to mention Crysis, the game speaks for itself in graphics alone, and you can play it before Crysis 2 gets released )

Fallout 3, Oblivion, Borderlands, Dragon Age.

Those are the games I've been playing lately, at least.

About Batman: Arkham Asylum. Has absolutely nothing to do with the movies. Not the same voice actor, not the same Batman look, etc etc. It's mostly based off the comics, and actually pretty WELL; rather than the 70's child-ized version of Batman things are really pretty gruesome. Batman still doesn't kill people, but all the psychologically brutal characters like Victor Zsaz, Joker, and Scarecrow are there in full. Plus, it has both a well-done combo-based fighting system and a very inventive stealth system. I've even done a bit of replaying through the challenge modes after finishing single-player.
