They're jocks. The only thing they know is how to beat up on one another. This, of course, makes them naturally talented for contact sports where it seems half the game is to pummel your opponent. A little training on how to not get caught by the refs, tell 'em which end of the field the ball goes on and they're golden.

Perhaps my opinion is a bit jaded, though. Maybe they're not quite as immature and bullish overseas as they are here. The local-to-me football team has a huge problem with it's players committing felonies. Most famous example of all, I think, is Pacman Jones' troubles with Metro PD. But they all have issues from time to time, mostly related to hard drugs, fast women and expensive cars. So I may be unfairly labelling ALL contact sport players as bullies.

but it's got to be said that I've never heard of any of them going on to do good for the world post-sports career.......
Have you ever watched a single football match?
I'm not talking about the NFL, but soccer.

Yes, it has a contact aspect in it. But, it is limited to shoulder-to-shoulder type of contact when trying to control the ball. More than that, the player will be kicked out of the match.

It's totally different from the NFL where physical contact is unavoidable.

Let me just say that I am in no way a 'Jock', I am, like a lot of people on here, a programmer, overweight, and not much of a sportsman. I enjoy rugby, but am not particularly good.

The idea you can just paint everyone who plays a sport with the same brush, and that they are all idiots is rediculous, immature, and comes off a little green. Yes, some people are gifted with athletisism instead of acidemia, some the other way around, and some lucky few with both. I think saying that just because someone plays a sport they are a bad person is insane.

Yes, some do act like that. Some footballers cause massive problems, and I must admit, I don't like the game. (Look at how much respect the refs get in football, then look in Rugby, it's completely different).

One thing I can't stand about soccer (football) is how they try to act out being hurt to draw fouls. I know this is done to some extent in pretty much all sports, but it's just ridiculous in soccer. They'll violently throw their own head back or roll around in agony while holding their shin, then sprint off when they realize they didn't get the call.

Any sport that harbors mass players that do stuff like that.. no thanks. It doesn't help the sport's fruity image in some people's minds either.

I honestly had absolutely no idea about this "World Cup" buisness, but Google is still win!
All you need to know is that the USA will start beating England at 2:30 PM EST on Saturday. Suck it ya limey Brits! I know how low the odds of this actually are!

"Oh noes, we gotta call it soccer because the americans get offended". It was called football since it was invented but hey you lot call it soccer and the rest of the world will call it football.
Actually the term "soccer" was created by the UK. It is short for Association Football. The term "football" also came from some other thing the UK used that I am forgetting at the moment. It was just the way you guys went about it in the mid 19th century and it stuck over in the USA, Japan, and a few other places. As the great American "poet" once said, "know your role and shut your hole".

Edit: I just really wanted to type that last part for no reason at all. Think it was the "wrestling" comment earlier in the thread.

Actually they could probably teach Hollywood a few things. Some of those guys are good fakers. Then again there are the ones that get their shins snapped in half...

Soccer isn't fruity. I don't know why some people think that. It is just kind of slow and low scoring.

Recently I found out that I personally find soccer the most boring sport in existence.

A few days ago there was a warm up game on and I figured since I haven't seen a single soccer game I would watch it and see if it was any fun. I kid you not, I actually, truthfully fell asleep after about 20 minutes of watching these ladies play kick back without a single goal attempt from either team.

I honestly prefer watching that stupid olympic sport where they mindlessly push a big stone block across the ice with runners that buff the ice in the direction they want it to go...... to soccer.

Whatever it is called, it was the previous champion on my personal ROFL this sport is BAD list, but Soccer KO'd it in the first round.
