SWEET. O_O I'm actually only gonna upgrade my GPU and RAM this summer. Maybe put my HDD's in RAID to speed them up. I'm going to tryyyyyyyyyyyyy to be patient and wait for AMD's Bulldozer. But we'll see....

Thanks though!

Unless you do real heavy rendering/encoding/Virtual Machine/Folding, there's no point going 6core yet. Athlon II X4 is enough for most games and average computing tasks.

Out of curiosity, how does Intel bin their products? I'm familiar with AMD, but I always assumed Intel didn't(That was a stupid assumption, I know)

I feel like this thread was started as flamebait for us Intel guys.

Common sense tells me the cheap as chips 6 core will out sell the $1000 6 core.

they all have been binning their cpu's since like the 90's. thats why there is some gold chips for when they sell more cheap cpu's and they just lock the ones rated higher to a slower speed. resulting in epic.

Wasnt trying to flame anyone.

I just wanted to know if intels 6 core was worth it to a lot of people (which even 1 in 10 people is ton of people)

It was worth it for me. I do a lot of 1080P converting, and HATE having to wait hours and hours for one movie to complete. For this chip it only take 30mins to compltet one 1080P movie.

Impossible i tell ya...
1. None of Intel/AMD chips dropped that much in price, that's about 50% less, in several years the 980x will pretty much become obsolete, the Celeron D series was being sold like 4 years ago, proly more and they are not built anymore, dual cores still have a place in the market, but it's greatly reduced and they have a new architecture..
Octocores are already announced, aswell as some 12 core server CPUs and so on, dont expect the expensive hexacores to survive long..
The ones that will survive will probably be the most used ones, and that's most likely the 920, and if its lucky the 750, even though i can see Intel turning the 1156 socket obsolete in a couple years too, and making a new socket..and then the 1366 will be the standard one..
