Moddable GTX465's Purchase Locations Thread - Page 5

I just bought a PNY 465 from Amazon that i hope will end up having the 10 chips needed to unlock. But a few hours later while still digging though video cards I found this.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-111-_-Product

This is 465 by "Sparkle" at $269, now before we make fun of this card I would like to draw you attention the to product photos. Especially the super high res photo of the back of the card where you can clearly see the chips and can zoom. I am sure someone with a 10 chip card can look this over and confirm its upgradable.

Gasp. Complete capacitors! It should unlock. Only one way to really find out. Go get one!

Not necessarily. EVGA has complete capacitors and almost none of their cards unlock.

By the way, I apologize for not updating this list. I will get to it very soon, I am currently preoccupied with a few other tasks at the moment.

Hence the point of trial and error. We'd never -really- know unless someone tried it out.

Running the GTX465 as a GTX470 requires better PSU

I originally hit instability issues with my Samsung vram equipped GTX465 when I flashed it as a GTX470.

Turns out the problem was my cheap '680W' PSU couldn't deliver the 225W (75W slot + 75+75 pci-e connectors). Seems the extra power a GTX470 needs was just over it's tipping point causing power starvation. Have had to resort to using an external 12V/80W PSU to drive one of my pci-e connectors.

Now all working fine. Even works overclocked to beyond-GTX480 800/950 gpu/memory clocks Glad I went an unlockable GTX465 over a 1GB GTX460.

I just got my PNY 465 from amazon today and the PCB is blue not black. It also only has 8 chips. Seems like they have fixed their problem with not having 465 boards. I would recommend against buying one from Amazon. Mine is being returned and I plan on finding another way to get a 465.

I was just about to order the sparkle when I thought I would dig up more info on the company. I found this site doing a review and unboxing of the card http://www.overclockersonline.net/re...651024d5-nm/4/ they also took off the heat sink and there are only 8 chips and the PCB is blue again. I am pretty sure that most of the manufactures have now switched to 465 PCBs and unless you get really lucky and get a old dusty box from the first line of 465's I doubt we will be seeing much more unlocking.

On another note this whole process has kinda become void since newegg has a MSI 470 for $299 now plus a $20 rebate bringing it down to the cost of a 465 anyway. So congrats to everyone who managed to get one unlocked I think I am just going to get the 470.

Hello, I am new here and this is my first post... anyway, I just bought two PNY cards from NCIX for 239.99 CAD. I am hoping that they are of coarse unlockable or else they are going back. On the NCIX website/also youtube Linus (who you may or may not know) un-boxes one for the cam to see and I was hoping you guys could tell me if it (the one he un-boxes) "appears" to be ripe for the unlocking...

here is a link to the youtube video:

Also here is an acutal pic taken from the you tube video that I wanted you all to look at.

please help if possible. thanks
