**Should I Upgrade to 8 gigs of ram** - Page 2

i assume you got a core i7 with tri-channel memory and i'd think rather wait and upgrade to that instead. and get from 6GB - 12GB
but like personally 2GB is already plenty for the avg. user most of us 4GB ATM is sufficent.

2gb is plenty for nongamers, light users

4gb for gamers and photoshop, and pretty much everything

6gb if you have triple channel ram from the X58 chipset... still plenty for pretty much anything

8-12+, unless youre doing professional level rendering of entire buildings or using Photoshop for a ridiculous amount of pics.... this much RAM is not really necessary by any means

When I'm running games the memory usage never goes over 1.5gb. No for 8gb.

It'd be a waste. 6 gigs of RAM is more than enough

No! Worthless upgrade.

Not so true, normal multitasking would hardly use more than 2-3GB. Check your RAM usage the next time you 'multitask', you'll be surprised how little you use.

When my cpu is idling with a lot of programs open (a few tabs in chrome, itunes, mathematica, digsby, word, thunderbird), I peak around 2.5-3gb of ram used. Do you tend to multitask over double that? If no, then you do not need more than 6gb of ram

Thread Starter
Well I did. "To conclude this thread 8 gigs is better then having 6". 8 Works great if you have VMWare and stuff. If you have the extra monies to burn. Invest into the future!!
