Let me re-emphasize the fact that he was working for these people and that he was bragging about it to other people that work for the same people. That would be like if I stole everybody's private info on OCN and bragged to you about it. Not too smart there.

This really upsets me....

...when I was in the Army, I couldn't get security clearance for two years because I had juvenile record (vandalism and petty theft)...as such, I had to take a Combat Arms MOS (13B Cannon Crew-member, Field Artillery) instead of something that actually gave me technical skills...and I scored a 93 on my ASVAB
This guy got MI and he does this?

This kid just destroyed his career and likely several years of his life....way to go Soldier

He said that Mr Manning would download the documents from a room that needed a unique security code to access it. However, security on the base had slipped, he said.

"He said you'd knock on the door and they'd let you in."
When my dad was in the Navy he told me of a time when the new XO of the ship he was stationed on wanted access to the Comm shack where he and the other CTs worked. He was not on the days access list and was denied entry. The XO got really mad and threatend to write him up for Captains Mast.

In the end my dad was right and the CO told the XO to learn proper security protocols. If my dad had let him in he would have been court martialed and jailed.

Wikileaks is such a **** disturber website. They think there entitled to know EVERYTHING and they think they actually got something on bigbrother. One of the founders said something like this to the DoD & NSA. "You think you can get away with it but you can't. THIS IS WIKILEAKS!!!" Implying that themselves, there followers & the rest of the "free culture/non conforming" people of the internet actually have power over them.

If the NSA & CIA actually thought you had something that could jeopardize them for the good or bad, they would quickly "dispose" of you. Which is why I find it laughable they they think they hold weight around there.

Albeit the only real thing they ever "exposed" was the Apache video and it's not like we didn't know that was happening before.

Oh really? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikileaks#Notable_leaks

I would consider the Apache video relatively low on the list...

At least they might tell us when people do start dissapearing. Under your model, we'd never know til we get yanked.

I think the reason the guy turned him in makes sense, even to an antiauthority guy like me. The documents could have undermined relations between the US and many of our allies because it would reveal the wicked web we weave to keep US a super power. Whether you think what the US did or does is good or bad you need to acknowledge that private means private. Imagine if all your PMs suddenly appeared on some website, or all your emails. Could be more than embarassing. Could get you fired, or divorced or even arrested. Private means private. Isn't that why you have a password on your PC?

There is a difference between one person and an elected government who covers things up, although I partially agree, we shouldn't know everything, that's just plain boring... look at the EU... boring.
