Why was a video like that classified? It's stupid, and frankly scary.

Could be more than embarassing. Could get you fired, or divorced or even arrested. Private means private. Isn't that why you have a password on your PC?
Not really, WE are supposed to run the government, the military is set-up to take orders from civilians. The fact that something like the Apache video could be called classified is ludicrous. Do you realize how scary your logic is?

Are you saying it's okay for the US to hide whatever it wants, if it could harm relations with another country? Why stop there? The Government should hide stuff from us that could make us upset. That is scary crap, sir.

I feel there are TWO kinds of secret really. One where it is secret because of shame and another because if someone finds out a lot more is at stake other than public image. If the US is keeping things that rely more on that people are screwing up or doing wrong for self gain or indulgence then damn right that should get out.

But secrets that involve security or tactical information and the such... yeah that can't get out.

Now here we have Specialist Joe Snuffy here who is just leaking secrets at random. Something very important might have been in there like the code name of a FLUXKING OPERATION!!!! Are you kidding me? That puts your fellow servicemen at risk!! He deserves this. I'm sorry if his intentions were to show covered up embarasments of the US military, but he has a damn obligation. It's not that bad that he has to go do something like this.

FYI I was in for four years and did a year in Iraq. I didn't love it all and I saw and heard of things that I don't mention because I don't see how anything good would come of them if I talked about it. Plus I don't have anyway to back them up LOL. But it isn't my call to talk about them more than anything else.

Do you even know what the classified information is that was released?
Yes, he gave away 260,000 pieces of classified information that were deemed classified to cover up crimes. I'm sure he look into every one that he gave away and there wasn't some convenient "crime cover up" folder" to use.

Also, even data such as that can have effects other than the crime. What if the innocent that were killed were actually working for the enemy? What if that gave away the positioning of troops like that news idiot did before an attack by broadcasting a map? What if it isn't covering up a crime at all and the guy is giving away nuclear weapon plans to Saudi Arabia?

The hacker said he felt that turning him in was needed. The guy probably gave out some really dangerous info.

If we know, that means other countries know. There lies the problem. That is why we elect officials to represent our interests for us. I agree with CyberDruid. This is becoming political rather than a discussion of how this guy should feel because he turned in somebody who did something regarded as treason and punishable by death.

That's because if I didn't I would get PM's on if I'm still selling AR15 receivers.
