Help me get my 9800 GT folding

Thread Starter
I picked up a 9800 GT on the way home last night. After installing everything I got it working, or so I thought. When the client downloads a WU it immediately sends it back and starts to download another WU. The log states that the failure is the result of "Unstable Machine".

Notes:
- Card is in the third PCIe x16 slot on my board.
- Currently using the -gpu 2 and -forcegpu nvidia_g80 flags.
- using latest Nvidia drivers 197.45.
- Machine ID = 2.
- Ran Driver Cleaner to remove any Nvidia drivers prior to install.
- Card was attached to a monitor during install process, but I will be making a dummy plug for it.
- Attempted with and without the Desktop extended to card.
- One thing I did note last night, I forgot to use the -local flag to redirect the location of my log file, is there anyway that this is my problem?

Thanks for the help as I hope to get the running tonight when I get home in time for the Foldathon.

Add the -local flag instead of the -gpu flag to one of the GPU's That should fix it.

I guess I should note that this is the only card I am attempting to fold with on this PC. I thought that -gpu 2 flag would be needed to tell the client what card to use.

My bad. I misread the post. Try switching the forcegpu flag for the -local flag. There is a guide on setting up Mixed ATI and Nvidia folding rigs and people seem to have the unstable machine problem on the nVidia cards. I know that's not what you're running, but people say that the -local flag fixes that problem on nVidia cards.

+1 for switching local and forcegpu. You shouldn't have to force it as it will fold native.

I will give that a try when I get home in about an hour. I added the -forcegpu flag because I kept getting an "unsupported card" message every time I opened the client. Once I added it, the message went away.

Edit: Can I just add the flag, or do I need to reinstall the client to get this to work properly?

Adding the flag should have fixed it. My flags are "-local -gpu 1 -verbosity 9" and I was able to fold on an 8800GTS as a secondary card.

The -local flag did not fix the problem, I even reinstalled the client with not luck. I also continue to get the "unsupported card" message if I do not include the -forcegpu flag.

Anybody have a record distance for throwing a 9800 GT like a frisbee or boomerang I can break tonight?
