Help me get my 9800 GT folding - Page 2

Try this, just ignore the ATI part since you won't be folding on those cards, right?

Notes:
- Card is in the third PCIe x16 slot on my board.
- Currently using the -gpu 2 and -forcegpu nvidia_g80 flags.
- using latest Nvidia drivers 197.45.
- Machine ID = 2.
- Ran Driver Cleaner to remove any Nvidia drivers prior to install.
- Card was attached to a monitor during install process, but I will be making a dummy plug for it.
- Attempted with and without the Desktop extended to card.
- One thing I did note last night, I forgot to use the -local flag to redirect the location of my log file, is there anyway that this is my problem?

Thanks for the help as I hope to get the running tonight when I get home in time for the Foldathon.

My 9800GT's are cards 3 and 4 but I still use -gpu 0 and - gpu 1 (as I onjly fold on them and it works ) My 1 and 2 are my ati in sig.

-gpu 0 -forcegpu nvidia_g80
-gpu 1 -forcegpu nvidia_g80

Is what I used for mine. Do you have ati as your main display cards then Nvidia jsut for folding?
I could never get teh force flags to work until I made dummpy plugs. Now I get 5800 PPD each card.

Didn't even think to ask if he was using a dummy plug or anything like that.

Thread Starter
I am attempting this on my sig rig. The two 5770's are in slot 1 and 2 and are the primary display for my PC. They are in Crossfire. The 9800 GT is in slot 3, and I currently have a dummy plug in it. Win7 is recognizing it as having a "Generic Non-PnP Monitor" attached.

I used the guides from the essential thread to get me this far.

One thing of note. This is one of those Green/Eco Friendly/Power Saver card that does not get additional power directly from the PSU, only from the PCIe slot. I have notice that GPU-z reports that is card is often in it's power saver mode with the Core, Memory, and Shaders downclock to 300/100/600 as opposed to the defaults of 550/900/1375. Anyone know how to disable this function?

I use MSI Afterburner to oc my 9800's and my 5870's they stay waht I put em at.

The biggest thing I found to make it work was the dummy plugs, after attaching I opened up CCC and went into Desktops and Displays. I clicked detect and each monitor it showed I chose extend display until it gave me option to say yes / no and a count down. After extending it shows as it being a monitor but not usable..

Thats what I found hope it helps to sort yours out

Apparently it was a combination of the -local and -gpu flags. Running it with "-gpu 0 -forcegpu nvidiag80 -local" did the trick.

Now to see if the card can overclock at all.

Woohoo!! Normal 9800GTs overclocked pretty well, not sure about the green version, hopefully you can get a few straps out of the shaders!

I see no reason why -local would help in this situation; I'm calling it and saying a reinstall would have done the same thing.

Files can get left behind at times; deleting the 2 appropriate folders would be needed too.
