Getting my first DSLR - Page 2

canon really doesnt make good starter cameras. the xsi is rather dated, easily bested by the sony a500, pentax k-x and the olympus e-640 or epl-1. and for the price of the t2i, a pentax k7 could be had. canon really makes impressive 50d+ class bodies.

but if you have friend taht already shoot canon, or some EOS glass....canon is the natural choice.

Canon makes excellent entry-level cameras (T2i). Nikon on the other hand, doesn't. But if you're considering a D90, that's not really entry-level.

ahh...notice i didnt list entry level nikons....personally i havent used a nikon lower then a d80 so i really dont know anything about them.

but for canon ive believe i have used every rebel (rebel, xt, xti, xs, xsi, t1i, t2i) and the t2i is a good camera and a even better for video. but for stills it isnt worth the 900msrp when a 50d(body) is 200 more or the xsi for 200 less (or replaced by one of the cameras i listed before).

I actually think the T2i has better stills than the 50D.

DXO marks the sensor as being quite a bit higher.

and dxo says the a230 sensor is better then the 50d and the a550 better then the 7d.....

50d take faster CF cards, has faster burst/af/shutter and a better build. its very well possible the 18mp t2i/7d sensor is better then the 50d but seriously we are just splitting hairs...
