Care to explain? I own several headsets/headphones from various manufacturers and have always felt that Turtle Beach products have exceptional value when you take sound quality and features into account.

I have the HPA2s and they are freakin' awesome for my uses. The base delivery is great, and the 5.1 surround sound quality it perfect for the price I paid for them.
Good point. Turtle Beach has gaming headsets, not audiophile headphones. Their target market is the PS3 and Xbox 360 gamer--not a CEO who wants to listen to music on his private jet.

Oh and, I also have the HPA2. Well, technically I have the HPX1--which uses the same exact headset as the HPA2 but has a different connector. I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience with the HPX/HPA.

Which model are you referring to? I can't possibly see how it was the HPA2 because this headset is made out of metal.

Turtle Beach describes it as an "audio processor". Based on the description, it's kind of like a soundcard for a console. Interestingly enough, Turtle Beach does not have it listed under "Sound Cards" on their website. However, in the description, they say it works for a PC and Mac.

As stated above, the DSS is not a headset--it's a sound card/audio processor. The "sub" (for lack of better term) would depend on the quality of headset/headphones used with the DSS. Better the quality, better you'll hear the low-end frequencies.

7.1 into a pair of stereo headphones = 2.0, not 7.1...

Owned surround sound headphones in the past, they were OK at best. Noticeable surround sound VS standard stereo headphones, but still not nearly as good as a well-done home theater surround sound, or even a basic 5.1 setup for your computer. You just can't emulate that in a set of cans.

My buddy has the X41 Wireless 7.1 Turtle Beach headset and it sounds like utter crap. It was comfy to wear though! He thinks they are the best thing since sliced bread.

Actually NoDestiny you can,CMSS3D and Dolby headphones on sound cards which has either ones does a good job of doing it. It works even better If you have your sound set for 5.1 in the windows control panel ,you have CMSS3D headphone /Dolby headphone enable in the sound card control panel. It spreads spacing of the sound when using either one with your headphone.

I have use both and both does work but does it different then each other, Both does it differently One is HTRF and the other is that other one.

When I used both I liked the way Dolby headphone worked over CMSS3D headphone when I last used my Xonar HDAV1.3. In compares to The prelude CMSS-3D headphone. Also when I used DH on my Ultrasone HFI-780 when I used it on the Xonar HDAV in games,it did a very good job did sound like I had 5.1 speakers.

They tend to work even better on audiophile grade headphones,Tho allot of different ones will let you hear your positional based on the design of the headphone without using either DH or CMSS3D headphone.

I dont really use dolby headphone or CMSS3D headphone now as I dont have either one any more. Old fashion CMSS3D doesnt work that well.

I have always found there build quality to be fairly cheap, and sound quality to be decent. But this 7.1 USB device is a joke as same with there so called "surround sound" headphones, I have owned one surround sound headphone and I can say it is terrible. They also give the apeal to the average console gamer that they have an "awesome" headset when it really isnt at all.

A good pair of stereo headphones will beat out any 5.1/7.1 headset. Most audio is recorded as stereo sound, and not multichannel sound, so any stereo headset which has decent soundstaging can easily match or even surpass the 5.1/7.1 headset.

Obviously, you have never used a pair of Sennheiser surround sound headphones. I have the HD 555 and they are far from a joke. And before you say it, yes they are listed as surround sound/stereo headphones.
...their advertising it as 7.1 yet its just stereo with audio processing... sennheiser hd 555/audio technica ad700 do the same job, just a lot better, with better sound quality to boot.
marketing gimmick.

Why would you try and listen to 7.1 through stereo? Its like trying to watch an Blu-Ray movie on an old analog TV...

Also, for anyone who knows anything about audio, Stereo doesn't simply mean 2 speakers, it means using 2 speakers to create a surround sound fell with audio...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereophonic_sound
Quote:
Stereophonic sound, commonly called stereo, is the reproduction of sound using two or more independent audio channels through a symmetrical configuration of loudspeakers in such a way as to create the impression of sound heard from various directions, as in natural hearing.
So if its already surround sound, why would you want to make it sound like a more crappy surround sound...? Basically what I'm trying to say is that Turtle Beach/Skull Candy/Bose and all those other crap headphone company's can't make true stereo headsets so they have to suffice with this stupid emulated 7.1 crap...
