New ASUS A8n-SLI and AMD 64, guidance on OC

Hello everyone!
For years I had a Anthlon 2600+ oc'd on front side bus to run better on a Delta L MSI board. ALL I had to do, or could do successfully was that oc in bios. I have now went to the below set up that I built, however I am now in over my head. I have read and read and still just don't know. One guy says this, another says NO that don't work, etc. I like it here how ya'll work on things, so here I go asking for help.

Below is my new set up.

ASUS A8N-SLI (standard not deluxe or higher)
Anthlon 64 4000+ SanDiego chip (cooled with a Zalman 7000) currently running at 30c.
Corsair XMS 3200C2PT matched dual channel kit two 1 gigs for 2048 total.
EVGA 7800 GT model 517 pcie (only one for now)
FSP (Fortron) Epsilon 600 watt supply
Standard Sata 16mb cache WD drive (not in Raid). Two other IDE drives.

I am looking to get a decent overclock and I game alot. I have never messed with voltages, etc.

I appreciate those with the know how and thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Ertman

Thanks for the guide. I read it, re-read it, applied the basic settings and could not get past the Asus logo screen. It would pass post and lock up. Weird. I tried the hyper 3 setting, only nothing, I am just NOT doing something right. With this mb, memory and processor, it is capable of soooo much more.
Any other help or suggestions, maybe a ocing pacifier? I feel so stupid.
Thanks,
Ertman

I just don't get it. You reduce the ram bus to up the front side bus???

Ugg, and to think I half way thought I knew what I was doing. I am so wrong.

My front side bus on this set up reads 800, it should be a 1000. I have all of the ingredients for a very good oc, and can't get it to oc. Like I said it will pass post then just sit on there.

Uggggggggggggggg

When you wish to OC the CPU you change the CPU Freq, as the memory controller is on the CPU, so the memory will be OC'd by this change.

If the memory cannot work at the higher speed you have to use dividers (MaxMem) to change the memory speed down within its operating limits.

Hence on the A8N you have some smaller options to work with but still able to OC a reasonable amount.

The HT bus is to be kept under 1000Mhz, leaving this set on x3 will keep you safe for most OC's on this MB
