Do fan shrouds make any noticable difference in temps

As the title states, do they? Proof?

there was a big craze where everyone believed that fan shrouds would significantly increase radiator/fan performance, and everyone spent money to get shrouds for their Thermochill radiators a few years back.

I was one of the people that bought them, but I didn't see any noticeable drop in temps.

They really do reduce the dead spot of fans, but most radiators have enough surface area now that it doesn't really justify the cost of buying shrouds.

Go ahead and get shrouds if you want to, but IMHO, they're a waste of money and also a waste of space in your case. As long as you have a good radiator with good fans, don't bother.

yes, and they also lower fan noise a bit. they are not as important now since purpose-built computer radiators kind of have a shroud (or at least stand the fan off of the fin surface). back in the old days where people used heater cores and other DIY rads, shrouds were necessary to get optimal performance.

if you have the space, try it and see for yourself. it may or may not be worth the space needed (especially if that space could be used for another fan on the other side of the radiator).
