Canon SD780IS or SD1400IS?

Thread Starter
I just need a basic point & shoot digital camera that can do video as I will be doing a lot of traveling this summer across Asia. Which would be the better option?

780IS: http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerSho...e=UTF8&s=photo
1400IS: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

From what I can see, the SD1400IS is the updated version of the SD780IS right? Is the only difference the megapixels and zoom? (12.1 to 14.1 and 3x to 4x) Are those differences worth the $60 higher price?

I really do not know much about cameras and this will be only my second digital camera purchase ever but good quality photos (for a point and shoot at least) is very important for me.

me and a some of my friends have a few of the 780is and the 1400is. both work great. macro is sharp. video im not sure on the 1400is for concert settings [audio recording quality but im pretty sure it should be good if predecessor is good]

the one downside i saw on the 1400is was that the zoom was not around the shutter release button, its to the side. check out pictures and u should see what i mean.

for p&s, the MP different has quite a difference. not too much for DSLRs due to the sensor size. but the zoom is something id definately consider. 3x isnt much. havent a little more reach in optical zoom will help in some cases.
