[Shacknews] Fallout: New Vegas PC Using Steamworks - Page 7

steam FTW. I really think steam is one of the best things to happen to PC gaming. Sure it can be a pain sometimes, but for all the pluses it provides its really great. I look froward to this game. Steamworks is also very great. =)

I don't see the point in companies wasting time and resources on DRM when the crack groups still get the game on bittorrent before the publisher gets it on store shelves.
lol but no. Yes when a game is first launched of course there will be server issues with slow download speeds, how many people do you think are downloading that newly released game? As for account hacks, its very simple to get it back, save your game purchase receipts like a responsible person should always do, and hand that receipt over to their support staff. Its rather quite simple, even if it does take a little time.

I hate this business model and don't wish to support it. However, the PC Limited Edition in this case has some stuff I would like so now I am stumped about what to do.

Hopefully, that now makes more sense.

I've been really happy with Steam. I love the fact that I can wipe my hard drive/move to a new system/whatever, and I only have to install Steam to have total access to my complete game collection.

Its not a mod at all. This adds things to the game for modders to use, which are entirely impossible to do without FOSE. While they will support modding, there is quite the question as to whether FOSE will be compatible.

What do mods do? They cause a game to do something it wasn't intended to do. What does FOSE do? It causes Fallout to do things it wasn't intended to do.

FOSE is a mod, mod support is guaranteed the way it has been, and I say again do read the source. FOSE will work. It's worked with the Steam copy of FO3, it will work with New Vegas.

Personally I give it less than a month before major mods get ported from FO3 to NV, and I would not at all be surprized if simple ones work right out of the box.

Don't be stupid with your account details and you won't get hacked.

Would you rather they use the Ubisoft method of alienating customers? The one that requires a constant connection and you lose all progress if you drop that connection for any amount of time? Or would you rather have a DRM solution that lets you do a think or two.

It is a pebkac issue that apparently wouldn't be a problem if the people who made mods completed them and if (supposedly) mod support wasn't rushed and released the way it was. Again, this is what I read from some people who actually make the mods and seeing that I have never made one myself I wouldn't know if this is a valid argument or if its just an excuse why some mods can make your game crash. I've installed a enough mods to know the only way I can mess things up is if I have mods that are incompatible with each other.

Thanks for clearing that up, and in that case +1 to Bethesda

you still dont get it. Let me make this more clear. In order to run FOSE, GFWL has to be disabled, because it monitors your memory for acheivements and such. Steamworks will do the same thing for the achievements that it has. If things are handled anything like GFWL, fose will not be compatible, which is the biggest blow to modding.

So. lets clear something up. You dont know what you are talking about. i suggest you go learn about FOSE.

I agree with you EXTREMELY!

Valve is a great company now, but look at all the amazing companies of the past that have fallen so hard. To name a few Epic has gone from a PC gaming wonder to a console kitty play fest, Bioware went from an amazing RPG PC game house to a an action oriented RPG DLC milking cow, ID software is... well where the heck are they? Blizzard merged with Activision and well Activision is Activision... Infinity Ward went from being the best FPS company to easily the worst.

What happens when Valve take the plunge as they all inevitably do.

BE CAREFUL PEOPLE!

(Although I do buy all my game on steam... I am just scared of their future)
