Hey guys, going to be forking out some cash on a new Mobo+CPU soon.

I was looking at picking up the new i7 875K and the Asus Maximus III Gene.

Just wondering, should I get another 1366 board and i7 930, or go the 1156 route?

It's mainly for gaming and I will be overclocking.

Most likely getting the H-50 with the 1156 board too.

wait for Sandybridge?? If you can get to a Microcenter then I'd probably go with a 920 for $200

I say neither, a new socket is coming out end of this year or yearly next year. But if you can't wait, 1366 is better.

i7 at microcenter for $200. The 1366 platform will give you more upgrade ability in the future with all of the cpu power from the i7s.

1366 would be the best choice if you've got the money

That's a great price for the i7, but I doubt there are microcenters in Australia.

Sandy bridge is meh, I would recommend 1366. It will be the best until the new high end intel socket comes out and even when it does, it will be very expensive. x58 is still as good of an investment as it was two years ago. However, going with an am3 board might be a good option as well, as bulldozer looks promising. It will fill the gap between mid range sandy bridge and high end sandy bridge.

Just something to consider.

Actually, I probably should hold off for Sandy Bridge, then go all out when it's released.

Also, it might cost me a lot to get to a Microcenter, I need to book flights, accommodation and sort out a passport.

I'm on X58 at the moment, it's just that my Mobo and CPU are giving me the poopies.
