Cpu voltage troubles, 945, 965, 1055

So Im running the rig in my sig Im running 3.6 currently and had to go to 1.38 to get a stable clock.

Well Once I try to go higher I run into huge walls to get 3.8 stable I need like 1.47+

I traded in my 965c3 because of the same problem It seemed like it required huge amount of voltages to get to half of what others had.

and before that a 945 which also required way more voltages to reach clocks others were.

So here in lies my question what is causing this plague of mine, am I doing something wrong while oc?

Current specs

3.64 @ 1.38
Ht-2080@1.2
Ram-867@2.1 5-5-5-12-24
Nb-2600@1.2

cpu vcore of 1.3

Not all chips overclock the same. You might just have been less lucky than some people on here. It could possibly be your motherboard as it is fairly low end but it might just be the chip. My 1055T needs 1.4v to be stable at 3.6GHz so your actually doing better than me.

Like I said it's possible but it could still be the chip. Mine also needs 1.475v for 3.8GHz to be stable. Maybe our chips are related. Do you know the batch number on yours? Mine is 1013CPCW.

It's located on the integrated heat spreader of the CPU. Here is a picture of mine which is again 1013CPCW:

I just ask because usually similar batches overclock to similar levels. Not that mine is the only batch that overclocks that way but it could give us a general idea on yours. You could Google your batch to check it out.

No, the core volt would probably work the same. But make sure to get a Phase design of 8+, Just to make sure itll actually OC better.

Not really, but different boards have different number of power phases. The more of these the better usually when it comes to overclocking. My board is a 4+1 phase. I think the Asus 890GX boards are a 8+2 phase. Though it looks like yours is a 4+1 phase so I don't see that being the problem: link. I'm not really an expert in this area though. You could start a thread about your board to explore it and see what others are getting with your board. Though my gut says it's not the board.
