I love amd but intel is still top in almost every aspect minus gaming, in which case it doesnt really matter as long as you have a quad core and a good gpu.
no matter what you say or how you twist words the platform is outdated they will not be making any more chips that perform any better on that socket

So you want top performance for a good price. Do you want to upgrade anytime soon? Next year or so? If not, go 1156. Its cheaper, on par with 1366 and more than enough for most the things you want to do. If you want to upgrade go 1090t, bulldozer will be out within the year and if its great then you can upgrade for a relatively low cost compared to buying a new system. It will also be more than youll ever need and its about the same price as an 1156 i7 build.

Either way, intel is most likely scrapping both sockets by next year in favor of larrabee and sandbridge, but the i7 wont be out dated for at least 2-3years.

Not twisting words at all, that's exactly what I said. The platform wont be officially outdated until lga2011 and 1155 come out, and until then intel will continue making new chips for both sockets.

Also, it is roughly 7.78 HKD to 1 USD, fluctuates depending on the market.

yah thing is, both platfrom costs are really really close right now

AMD is just about 600HKD cheaper than my i7 option right now. But loads of benchamrks I've seen still indicates that i7 is way superior to x6 for clock to clock speeds ie. 4ghz vs 4ghz

here are the pros and cons of the AMD choice:
pros: cheaper
6 cores
AM3 socket is still around for at least another 1-1.5 yrs

cons: looses to intel quads sometimes ie. i5 750
clock to clock will loose against intel most of the time
1090T is more expensive than a i7 920/930

Pros and cons of i7:
Pros: Very fast architecture
HT

Cons:
LGA 1366 being discontinued
Can be beaten by the x6 sometimes

right now, the performance ratio for the i7 is making me itch to go i7 cause for just 600HKD more I can get something thats superior to the x6, but upgradability will be limited.

on the other hand for something cheaper and being beaten by i7 most of the time, the x6 is a clear winner in survialbility of the socket.........

i'm tipping towards the i7 right now and I need some firm advice to go x6 or i7
post #26 of 38
That is why I say go for the 1156 socket i7.
It'll beat the x6 just like a 920, but is the exact same price as the x6.
You don't have the option to upgrade later, but chances are you wont need to until AMD comes out with a new socket themselves in one and a halfish years.
Its cheap, its great and its better than the x6 in almost every benchmark.

Heres a quick list to give you an idea on price between x6 and 1156 i7.

This build cost 6460HKD on newegg for x6 with what you wanted

This build cost 6055HKD on newegg for i7 with a board proven to oc very well!

With the Asus Maximus iii Gene it comes out to 6772HKD.
That board is overpriced in my opinion and I've seen this Gigabyte board do wonders on an i3 oc.

mhhmmm
thanks no need for the 5770 though, i will be getting a 5850 and a HX650 or better

If I was going for teh LGA 1156 i7, I was planning to go P55 micro or Asus Rampage III Gene, are they good clockers as well?
That rampage is probably the better board of those two.

Just threw in a random mid ranged card to get an idea and that was a TX750 unless you wanted modular?

Rampage is a great board, but its also overpriced. For P55 gigabyte has another great ocing board. The P55m-UD4.

The Gene will probably net you the better oc though.

Get the 1055T, overclock it, and put the extra money towards graphics cards. Would 8gb of ram help for your encoding?
