Worth overclocking a 8800 GTS?

Thread Starter
Yeah, i keep changing crappy video cards to slightly less crappy like socks and i come asking for help every time. I want to know if i'll notice a difference if i overclock my 8800 GTS? Also, what should i use to overclock it?
(Note: It's used)

Bonus question: How do i get OpenGL to work on this card?

You can use RivaTuner to overclock it, not gonna make a big difference but well, you'll have fun.

They actually overclock pretty well, at least mine did and most others I've seen anyway..

You should probably try EVGA Precision btw, a bit simpler than rivatuner if you are not to sure what you are doing.

What kind of 8800GTS is it? The 320, 512 or 640mb version? The 512mb version is by far the best because it has the G92 core. It's usually also a very good overclocker and can be pushed beyond GTS250 speeds.

Is it an older G80 (with 320 or 640MB VRAM), or the newer G92 (512MB) version?

I believe the G80's are Ok overclockers, but the G92's tend to be really good overclockers with a lot of headroom.

yeah, it'll still overclock reasonably and you'll still see a performance boost but yeah, having the 512 would help heaps.
