Whats the most stupid thing you have done when building a pc. - Page 12

Broke two pins off of a X2 3800+ since I thought I had seated it in properly and pulled the locking leaver.

Installed large heatsink before connecting the 4/8pin connector on the motherboard.

Not properly seating a heatsink and only realizing it when my computer would turn off after being on for two seconds.

Trying to use a old Dell PSU in another junker machine and having it catch fire in my room. At least the junk machine still worked after I plugged in a different PSU.

Threading a zip tie under a X1600XTX's heatsink only to scratch something and kill the card.

Probably trying to hide my SATA cables from my drives by running them through the side of my hard drive cage and through the back panel in my Antec 900 and back to the motherboard connections. Didn't think it was that stupid, till my hard drive died and couldn't pull out the cage because the cable that I ran through it was stopping it.

Some things seem like great ideas at first...but then.

Built a water cooled system with a peltier on a separate power supply and didn't install the adapter to turn them on and off at the same time with 1 switch so i was using 2 switch's. Came time for a lan and i turned my pc off but not the peltier needless to say it melted a hole in the top of my water block and i had green slime squirting out all over the floor.

I spilled an entire glass of soda right into my PC through the top blowhole. It shut off immediately. Never felt so dumb before.

Luckily I was able to act fast enough to disconnect the power before anything died. Took me ages to clean but in the end its running as good as new. Not a single hardware casualty.

I was up late one night drinking beer and putting together a pc (not a good combo). Completely forgot to put the heatsink back on the processor. It ran for about 10 seconds before it smelled like burning and shut down. that was the end of that CPU. and why aren't there any PC supply stores open 24/7?
