I spent 1 hour trying to find the slot where the i/o needs to connect on a Rampage II . It was a tiny hole, covered by a plastic cap. That thing did not look like a cap, so obviously, pulling things off a 370 euro motherboard was not my first priority. No description in the manual, no description on review sites and thank god for youtube.

Spent a few hours trying to find out why my computer didn't boot up. Couldn't find out, so I went to ASUS to find out whether the motherboard was faulty, only to realize I didn't connect the 4 pin power connector.

Plugged in a ghetto-rigged fan contraption while the PC was running and shorted it out. No damage, but the system shut down.

How do so many people assemble it without standoffs? The I/O ports and expansion slots wouldn't line up.

The worst thing was that one time I was reassembling a rig, I completely forgot to install the psu, I left it sitting on the side and I tried to power my rig up... yea...

off topic maybe.

a long time ago we had an apprentice who was assembling a machine for himself (office use) out of old crap we had laying about.

he was installing windows and asked what that switch does, i must have said something like give it a go and see what happens.

a loud bang later and the poor lad needing a change of pants i said, now what did we learn about flicking switches to see what happens? a valuable lesson for budding IT / Telecoms engineers!

probably why he hated me so much

Hahaha, and I've done exactly what you mentioned earlier about the power switch, myself.
