The problem with Bioware games...

Thread Starter
Is that they dominate my gaming.... I mean I have both consoles and my sig rig. 25 games on the PS3, only one finished, three games on the Xbox360, none finished and about 10 for the PC and only one finished (Bioware game ironically enough)

First it was Dragon Age, got it, loved it, was consumed by it. Didn't play anything else. Now its Mass Effect, soon to be Mass Effect 2

Thing is any other game I can play, put down, pick up another and go then go back to the old one. Until I play a Bioware game, I just have to keep playing these until there done to the denial of all the others.... Ah well, could be worse I guess

Bioware - a job well done.

Indeed, they are the best out there right now, well them and valve but valve is taking a life time to come up with something

You also have EA but that one is a hit or miss

they are changing... to some, for the better, to others, for the worse...

but the majority likes what BioWare's been doing lately... from what I've seen...

but of course, not EVERYONE is alike, so there are ALWAYS some who won't like whatever anyone does ALL THE TIME

Well to be honest, Dragon Age wasn't anywhere near what it could have been simply because Bioware can't use D&D and the Forgotten Realms settings anymore.
I wonder if there ever will be a new D&D RPG... I'm guessing there won't ever be because the rules are too complicated (although I heard D&D4 -or whatever version they're at- is much simpler) for the audience everyone wants to target today...

I agree. D&D rules are simple for people like us to grasp, but for someone like my younger siblings who love playing this RPG games after I borrow it to them, couldn't grasp it.

Even NWN 2 (I know it's not made by Bioware) was too much for my 14 year old brother.

The time for complexity in RPGs to the level of "old school" RPGs may be over, or at least will come few and far between.

I like how bioware can make different 'levels' of RPG's. By that I mean how in deptht hey are and how so. I was not a huge wan of DA:O, it was too slow and tbh, hard as ****. But I loved ME2 and played it through more than one to see all the dialogue and action scenes. I thought it was one of the better games of the year. I Also loves KOTOR, but I found the Baulder's gate series too be a little to hardcore D&D for my liking.

I was 13 when I started playing Baldur's Gate II and it's much more complicated (or at least less intuitive) than the D&D version used in NWN1/2. The learning curve was kinda steep, I remember seeing all the icons for spells (about two hundred of them) and I was like "Holy crap I have to memorize all these spells and their icons/effects/targets/duration/saves?" And I did. And it was epic beyond any game I have ever played.
Ahhh the good days...

What's hard in Dragon Age is the whole damage-based targeting thing, called threat I think. It basically made mages really annoying to use, and heavily encouraged having a tank.
To me it felt like every battle was the same. Buff the tank, use a crowd control spell, area of effect damage spell, tank does his threat increasing thing and gets pumelled, more AoE spells, put the tank in stasis so he doesn't die and more AoE spells.
The other option would be to use that Arcane Warrior instead of the tank.
