Remember Oblivion? And how it was promoted with all sorts of CPU-fryingly awesome technology, and in the end, we just got some mildly good draw distances and some shiny shaders? That whole Gamebryo engine is atrocious. Defense Grid was based on Gamebryo as well, and it's given me some of the worst slowdowns I've ever seen.

As my third I would have to select Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. One of my favorite games ever, but God help you if you get anything less than 40 fps, or the input lag will melt your frontal lobe.

That is unoptimized. Scoping into dust should NEVER cause a slowdown like that. If anything it should speed up the system since much less of the scene needs to be rendered.

Not only that but I was CONSTANTLY fiddling with the brightness and contrast because at some points my eyes were melting from all the light while at others I couldn't see the end of my own damn gun.

Things like that are my basis for saying it's unoptimized.
I've never had that problem before. I occasionally dip in heavy smoke, but that's about it. I would put your problem down to either a driver/hardware issue or a bug in the game as opposed to a poorly optimised engine.

I had the 4800+ so i would know

Those are the reasons I never saw more than 30FPs. But they don't explain why scoping into dust kills FPS that badly, or why the brightness of the maps is so inconsistent. I'm also not claiming it's unoptomized because my system can barely hobble it out.

I never had anywhere near this much crap when I played Crysis. That ran great, and I didn't have any "Scope into dust = slideshow" issues there. Nor did I have that issue in GTA IV, although I will admit that's not that graphically taxing.

On an unrelated note: That 4200+ is all I can afford. I'd love to have a quad core and a 4870x2 or better, but I just don't have the funds for a nice rig. I gotta make do with what I can beg, borrow, steal, garbagepick and/or scrounge up. Honestly it's amazing I have as good a system as I do. And I know all about this thing not overclocking worth a damn...I stocked it because 2.75GHz @ 1.75Vcore = 3FPS increase. Not gonna kill something I can't afford to replace for such a miniscule increase in performance.

Thats gotta be a user/system error not a game error. Back when I ran a 5770 I had much higher fps than that

1. Metro 2033 : Doesn't even look all that great and it runs like poop.
2. STALKER Clear Sky: Sorry Clear Sky; I Love you but the code under you is highly inefficient. Stalker needs a new Engine. X-Ray sucks and is so buggy. Typical C++ Code.
3. Crysis: Come now even a GTX 480 has a tough time playing this?
