External Hard drives any good?

Hi guys


I use a SSD for windows and games and would like to get rid of my internal 256gb internal seagate drive for something bigger are external HD good i was thinking of getting the Western Digital Elements 3.5 2tb.

personally i would say avoid getting the ones that require a power supply (mains plug) as they are generally large and bulky.
you could get a decent sized samsung spinpoint for internal storage;

I dont want a internal and dont mind the main plug this way I can Use it on my laptop as well just want to know if there any good.

I have an external enclosure that requires power and it is quite nice, but I do not move it so it doesn't matter.

Yes they are good I would recomend you get one just for the safety of backups and what not,

I have about 6 Externals all with different stuff on them and I always recommend to others to buy an external for data storage.

WD would be a good choice.

As an FYI, if your going to do any number of large file transfers and your computer supports, use a firewire or eSATA drive. Or even better, use a eClosure like mine that has USB, FireWire 400 and 800 + eSATA

get one with a great warranty. , i like my passport. 2 year old and going strong i got it for no external power. not the fastest but platter drives cant keep up with the ssds as for the ssds u can get then in usb 3.0 now. and are as fast as the vertex i got
