Fast disk setup advice.

Thread Starter
Hi all,

One of my hard drives in a raid 0 array has just died, so im looking to build a new fast disk setup. I was initially interested in buying one or two SSD's, but the price here in the UK is still extortionate (probably largely due to the weak pound to dollar, diminishing any price drops). I'm now thinking of buying two standard SATA hard drives and setting up a raid 0. I don't need much disk space, just want two fast drives that aren't raptor's or anything else pricey, trying to keep around £60 for two. Any advice?

Cheers,

Xerphiel.

Couple of the single-platter 500GB's in RAID-0, then short-stroked, would make a nice setup.

I have just noticed that an Intel 40gb SSD is priced at £88 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/190701, about the same as 2 Sata hard drives. Does anyone have any benchmark results helping to compare these two options?
Also, I remember that initially SSD's long term life was questionable, as the flash cells die after a number of writes, any news on this?

Thanks.
