underclocking GTX470 further?

Thread Starter
well, when i dont play games etc, i dont need extreme performance etc, and would like to underclock the GTX470 further, but msi afterburner only lets me downclock the core to 455 Mhz, which means about 405Mhz in "idlemode" or whatever it is called.. i mean, when im on desktop and dont use the gpu.. but i would like to underclock it further, is there some way of increasing the range of the msi afterburner (1.6.0 beta 6) ? or some other, preferably easy method of getting the clocks lower?

It does that automatically, mine downclocks to 50 mhz on the core when on the desktop.

Really? Try uninstalling drivers and using driver sweeper and reinstalling the drivers again. I remember that happened to me once and all I needed was a quick restart and it fixed it. Also, you need to wait a couple a minutes on the desktop for it to start downclocking.

Wait a minute, I just noticed that you have more than one screen. That is the issue, unfortunately with the 4 series, they don't downclock all of the way when you have more than one plug connected to your card, unless you get rid of the other plugs, you will be stuck there unless they release some sort of bios update or something.

now i disconnected all other displayes except my primary display, and i also rebooted to make sure it would be in a "clean" state, and now the memory underclocks fine to 81Mhz (x2=162Mhz, x4=324Mhz) but the core and shader still stays at 405/810 Mhz

Hm... I know my memory normally downclocks first followed by the other two clocks after a minute, if it still doesn't work, make sure no wires are connected to the card at all except the primary monitor wire and the only other thing I can think of is to try another driver refresh.

ahh, nevermind, i managed to figure it out already i forgot i had dvbviewer in startup, and it uses the gpu to draw the image, even in the backround
and as i actualy currently have only 3 screens, i moved the 2 remaining screens to the 2nd gpu and everything works now as it should
