Scythe Mugen 2 not even warm ?!?

Thread Starter
overclock: 3.7 GHz, Vcore 1,5V
running prime, cpu temp climbs up to 60C,
but the Scythe Mugen 2 isn't even warm.
(not even when you touch the heatpipes at the very bottom)

There must be something wrong here,
or is this normal?

(used Prolimatech PK-1 thermal compound,
which has very high thermal conductivity.
the screws to fix the Scythe Mugen 2 are max screwed)

Hmm weird, mine does get warm, but your CPU is HOTHOTHOT.

Try to keep temps under 55C. So try to reseat and get some MX-2, Shin Etsu or Coollab Liquid Pro TIM.

as far as i remember Prolimatech PK-1 was better in the tomshardware test than MX-2. And i don't wanna use liquid metal, as i'm to shaky with my hands when doing such stuff, i would spill on the board.

but the heatpipes should get warm anyway.

yea, it makes me feel like theres not any good contact between the CPU and the cooler. Did you put to much on the cpu? Grain size should be enough!

And liquid metal is in a injection needle, an just requires 1 little droplet and smear it with a qtip.

i distributed the thermal compound with that card that was included,
so that a very thin layer is on top of the cpu.

grain size doesn't seem enough to me.

Grain size is best, to much will make the cooling really bad. a grain size is more then enough, and you should consider another TIM.

Something is definitely wrong.

If it is not warm = that means it is not transferring heat. Reseat the cooler and you will get much better temps. I had to mount my Mugen 2 twice when first installing it on my X58 board. The firs time it was very hot and I found out it was making poor contact.

@1337LutZ: grain size doesn't reach the corners.
@Dopamin3: thanks, i'll definately have to try reseating.

i just reseated the Scythe Mugen 2,
and used LESS thermal paste

result:
reaches 60C in 5 min (OCCT stresstest)

before: (more thermal paste)
reaches 60C in 10 min (OCCT stresstest)

i touch the heatpipes where they just come out of the sock,
nothing, not even the slightest bit of warm.
