Scythe Mugen 2 not even warm ?!? - Page 2

Some may cry heresy at this but it worked for me to know I needed a complete reseat:

Open your case and turn it on, run linx.
GROUND YOURSELF
Push cooler into the mobo and see if the temps drop.

When I had my currently cooler (sig) installed wrong, I notice a solid 10-15c drop just from applying some force to the cooler. It let me know what was wrong.

high thermal conductivity isn't always best.
it's heat capcity is higher but it might not give off heat as well as a low conductivity
try the stuff that comes with the mugen 2 I've used it's pretty good paste.

80 way T.I.M review
do have the five heat pipes right in front of the fan/s?

I'm using TX3 with my mugen 2 and I have a really hot 9850 be under it right now

I mounted my xigmatek s1283 few hours ago also used PK-1, my heatpipes aren't warm at the top, 44c at full load, 35c idle (which isn't any better than intel stock low-profile for idle, but load is better), sig rig all @ default

EDIT: And now at higher fsb 320 (default is 266) and 3.52GHz (default 2.93GHz) it's 53c tops for like 10min. idle is not passing 35c

got me some other srews now to tighten the Scythe Mugen 2 more tightly.
seems to have helped, but just very little.
i think i just had bad luck with my cpu.
as the Scythe Mugen 2 isn't warm. (though it gets really warm when testing without the fan).

most probably it's the heat distribution inside the cpu which is the problem,
yeah that sucks big time.

thanks for the clues, guys

it really sucks,
3612 MHz @1.456V
results in a 62C temp, after running prime for 25min.
Scythe Mugen 2, just slightly warm

Try a different thermal paste, I used Arctic Silver 5 for my Scythe Mugen 2 (when I had it on my sig rig, now its on my other Phenom) and both times with AS5 my results came out much better than yours.

I will repost my question here I just posted on your other memory post....what case are you using(if any)? Those temps are way off, something is not right. You sure you removed the film from the cooler base?

your cpu is lapped is it ? if not it could probably getting to much paste between the cpu and base of the heatsink

the mugen 2 is completely flat on base if you lap the cpu and remount it will give much better temps.

and when you mount it make sure it feels like it suction cupped on to the cpu.

When its on put your hand on the cooler to apply pressure, to see if you mounted it wrong or not.
