RAM getting HOT!

Thread Starter
my RAM gets very hot,
can barely touch it.
it has such metal enclosure.
only runs at 704 MHz, although it could run at 800 by specification.

why is it so effin hot then ?!?
any help would be appreciated, thanks.

yea language not needed......
i would think that the ram is running at a high voltage for the speed its at,
you should have some airflow around them also.

also the other option is that the ram is just naturally hot - my ddr2 sticks are Crucial Ballistix - they are well known for 3 things:
Overclocking
Dying
Being VERY hot......

If you are worried just get a memory cooler such as the one from Corsair or OCZ. They are cheap and do the job well.

You should also try and see what the actual voltage being applied to them is as well. It's happened before that when XMP profiles are selected boards can supply absurdly high voltages on auto settings.

voltage is 1.603V (AMD Overdrive)

are memory coolers "such as the one from Corsair or OCZ"
a LOT better than the metal enclosure which they have out of stock.
(i intended to buy those when i was buying this computer,
but as they already had metal enclosures, i thought it might not
be necessary)

i wonder if the DDR5+ are going to have heatpipes...
cuz the DDR3s already have aluminum fins.

but theoretically they should be creating less and less heat due to the increase efficiency.
i wouldnt go far as water cooling them but i seen some people do though.

i just realized, the dimms have a plastics film on them,
which is supposed to be removed.

What case are you using and is there any airflow around the RAM?That does sound pretty hot,as my 1066 RAM @1.7 volts/1600 mghz barely is warm to the touch.
