Sell whatever you have and get a 5850/5870... should keep you satisfied-ish until 2011...

I have 4 pc's at the moment i will list the gpu's and then we can work out what i can get.
4870 512mb
4870 512mb
9800 gt 512mb
8800gtx
8800gts 320mb
280 gtx
I need to end up with GPU's for 3 systems as my 4th pc is being sold off in bits as i really don't need it, hence i have a 9800gt lying about.
So if i say £70 for the 4870
140 for the 280gtx
60 for the 8800gtx???
30 for the 8800gts???
50 for the 9800gt???
that would give me £420 to buy gpu's so i can't see it working?
or if i sell the 280gtx the 8800gtx and the 9800gt and 1 4870 that would give me £320 for a 5870?

Well you could get
£50 for 8800gts on ebay
£60 for the 8800gtx
£60 for the 9800gt
£150 for the 280gtx
£80 for the 4870 each
These are ebay prices, that you should be able to get fairly easilly

So that gives you £480

For that you could get 2 5850,s which would be faster than your 4870,s

Or 2 465,s

Even if you were to just sell the 280 and 4870,s you could have enough

Ebay

GTX280 could sell for around £180

The 4870 could go for £90 each

That gives you £380 just from that

Keep the 8800's. They are very efficient folders. Sell both 4870's, and the gtx 280, and grab your self a new 480, or sli 465's..

Thank you for all your work, but i still would like to end up with 3 pc's at the end so if i got 2 5850's i would be left skint, i guess i could get one now one later...which is better tho 2 5850's or 1 5870?
thanks jamie

you're likely to get $110 for each HD4870. $170 for the GTX280 (shipped)

The 280 would be a downgrade from the 4870CF. (even the gtx470 i have now benches lower than my 4870's but the minimums are way better and i have DX11 now).

I would sell all 3 and buy a 5870 or gtx470 which would take less power and perform better than your current setup (and cost you net nothing other than the time it takes to sell).

EDIT: the 4xx series draws more power but if you set the fan to 70% (silent still) they're just as cool as the 5xxx series.

The 5850 is about 20% slower than the 5870 (at the same clock)

HD5850 <----Base performance
GTX470 <----+10%

HD5870 <-----Base performance
GTX480 <-----+10%
