I disable it, I have NEVER used it, nor will I ever. I am confident in my own abilities to correct my computing mistakes

One of the first things I disabled never used it never will,
I did notice a significant speed increase when I disabled it due to the system not shadowing hard drive Actions,
Also if you monitor it you will lose quite a bit of space to it I went round a clients house and they had over 30gigs worth of space lost due to system restore points,

Also if you are that worried shadow your install after optimization,
I use Paragons backup aswell as a few others to make shadow archives of my drives for easy reflash after a problem like driver corruption or crap drivers being released like beta's,

Easier than buggering about with removing drivers and then using driver sweeper and the what not of hassle you get involved with that.

+1

On the other hand since I have SSDs (little space to spare) I trim it to 3% and keep it active only on the boot partition.

Plus on the up side of disabling it if you contract a virus the virus can not nessle into a restore point as some viruses do.

I set a day 1 system restore image as well as a scheduled 1 week image on friends/family members PC's.

This will give me a way to revert back to whatever they have done to the PC without spending too much time on some issues, since my time is very limited.

I have used this feature of win7/vista probably 5 times over the last 3 years, and it has saved me numerous hours worth of work.

Elizabeth James & Nick Parker.
I kid. reference

So, for now about half of the people use System restore, interesting, I thought it would've been like 1/3th because a lot of OCN members like to strip things down and SR tends to consume a decent amount of space.

Nope. Best thing to do is. Create a few partition with your harddisk. For example if you are using 350 GB , Make a 50gb partition for Operating System. 100gb for Downloads/others And another 100gb for Games and stuff depending on what you do. That way, if your operating system f***s up , you can just reformat that partition without losing your games and other stuff.. thats wad i did ^^.. oh yea having System Restore running in ur background is 1 of the things that slows the computer down..
