from what ive seen

youre supposed to put it on a cookie sheet with aluminum wrapped around it

and youre also supposed to take off the heatsink/fan shroud, and expose the gpu itself, and you bake it face up (gpu side up) at 350 (dont quote me on the temp tho) for like 10 minutes.

Alright, found a guide, and am going to try it out. I got nothing to lose, haha.

It ends in an AR, but like I said, I have not only requested an RMA, but have been denied it on the grounds it is past its one year limit. I don't know why.

DO NOT BAKE YOUR CARD YET

Read: http://www.evga.com/support/warranty/Default.asp

If I were you, I would of kicked and yelled at EVGA. If you did register before 30 days and if your product ends in an -AR, you cannot be refused a RMA for any reason. (unless you told them you purposefully threw the card down the stairs or something like that, or told them that you damaged the pcb.)

EVGA has to take back your card. Call them up and demand why you were rejected. If they still refuse, take this to the BBB. I'm just a little bewildered; EVGA usually has A+ customer service. It could be that the guy who denied your RMA claim was just a total noob.

You drove it that for a week? WTH I'm not sure it works with a 295. Here is the thread on how to bake.
The most important thing about reassembly and where most people burn them up. Is making dam sure it's flat when it goes back together.

How do we do that. Starting with the center screws first. Just get them started, finger loose. Working from corner to corner in an X pattern. After you have the screws all in still very loose. Start at the beginning turning each screw down a half a turn, still following the X.
After it's together (providing it boots) Most important watch the temps! If it starts to get 95c shut off fast. If not assembled flat it will leave gap where the processor and cooler meet. They can burn up in less 60sec! Let it idle at a good temp >75 for at least an hour before you load it down.
Wish there was more I could do.

Doesn't taking off the shroud and re-timming void the warranty regardless?

No, taking off the fan shroud does not void the warranty.

Quote:
Products received by EVGA for RMA replacement that include third party attachments (CPU Heatsink Backplate, Memory chip heatsinks, etc) will have the package returned to the sender. EVGA may choose to remove the 3rd party attachments to continue processing the RMA at its own discretion...

There is no physical damage to the PCB, GPU/chipset, or components that are caused by: Damage due to improper installation, damage during modification of any kind, damage during any type of aftermarket cooling installation, and water damage of any kind.
As long as the owner does not incur damage on the card, EVGA will take the card back. I'm not sure how other manufactures do it, but this is EVGA's policy. Pretty flexible if you ask me

Also Even if EVGA does not honor warranty with after market fans, etc; they have to honor the OP's because his circumstance is different.

Because the OP was denied RMA before he had applied the TIM, it is not his fault for trying to fix it himself.

If anything, its EVGA's fault for denying him a RMA.

I would take one look at the card and make sure everything is secured tightly; but for the love of God, dont bake it yet.

@KoolGuy: I put it back together already and to no avail. Baking was supposed to be the last option.

@youra6: THANK YOU! I called back EVGA one more time and figured out that for some reason, a tech support guy put in the wrong register date for my card, thus giving me a one year warranty and not the lifetime. So, the RMA is approved and I am going to have it in the mail as soon as I reassemble the card and box it up. Thanks for your time guys!

Side Note: I really wanted to try baking it. Coulda been fun, haha.
