Does this look right? (First overclock)

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I built this system yesterday and it's the first time I've attempted to overclock. (I tried following chadamir's guide for this overclock)

Can you please tell me if these numbers look right? Are the temperatures too high? is my Core Voltage correct? should I be using a x21 multiplier instead?

How much of a drop in temperature can I expect with my H50 in a push-pull config?

EDIT: Numbers from In-place large FFTs (maximum heat, power consumption) torture test in Prime95:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Need some advice so I can learn more about overclocking please!

Cheers

Only way to know if your core voltage is correct is to stress test your processor with prime95 or similar.

12 hours is what everyone will tell you. Also run intel burn test at maximum for 20 or more passes. Those temps are fine, i7 is good till 100c but i wouldnt go above 85C. Also you will never see those temps with any other program then the stress testing ones.

Why are you running the 19 multi? Is 21 not working for you?

Temps are fine, core voltage is low, h50 push pull would help a little bit. what are your ram speeds at with that setup?

Yeah that was one of my questions, so I should be using 21?

I was originally using 21 but my DRAM Frequency was lower (15xxMHz in bios) so I changed to 19 multi to increase the DRAM Frequency. New to all this so wasn't sure which one was more important higher multiplier or higher DRAM freq.

With the 19 multi as it's setup now, according to CPU-Z my DRAM Frequency is 843.2MHz

Low core voltage = good or bad? should I increase it?

It seems to be handling Prime95 fine atm, I'll have to try the intel burn test DQ recommended.

imo run OCCT LinX and do either a timed set for 8 hours minimum. But those temps are about right for your system. I'd recommend trying to keep it under 75.

Google linx and install it.

Set problem size to 25000 and runs to 20. Should take about an hour or so. If it gives errors, increase vcore and try again.

After that let Prime run overnight.

You want the lowest vcore you can get to and still be stable. Core temps are related to vcore. As you raise your vcore your temps go up. If it's not stable you raise your vcore until it's stable. If your temps are high you have to lower your Bus speed and your vcore until you find the happy medium.

Usually people want to raise BCLK as little as they may to avoid running into other limitations, however 19x is fine as long as everything is stable.

X58 has more than enough memory bandwidth so I wont be too worried about getting RAM frequency up, unless going for some extreme WinRAR bench
