If you are thinking about getting HL2 Episodes 1 or 2, or both, you might want to look into the complete source pack.

TF2 is good, and Counter Strike Source still averages 70000 players per day, after being released in 2004. I ma in a loose gaming clan that hosts a Day of Defeat Source server, and all source games are decent. Also you'd pick up Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 with that as well as some older games. $100 is a bit steep, but considering the amount of multiplayer and singleplayer games you'd be getting, it's not that bad really, and I can vouch, and others can vouch too that those games are fun, and have been fun for years.

Obviously, like others have said, Starcraft 2 is coming out, BC2 is a goodie, Modern Warfare 2 isn't bad either.

Starcraft(& starcraft 2), Counter-strike: source, dragon age: origins, mass effect 1 & 2, oblivion, left 4 dead 1 & 2, Team fortress 2, and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series games.

Welcome to the great world of PC gaming!

Must Plays

Orange Box (which includes Halflife Series and its such a great deal you get so many good games for such little price)
Civilzation 4 (King of all Strategy games literally - Civ 5 will be coming soon)
Deadspace
Mass Effect 1 + 2
Fallout 3
Crysis Just having this in your house defines you as a great PC gamer

try those out for now - those are definate must buys without even needing to think

Games to Consider

Battlefield Bad Company 2 Fun game, pretty much the best FPS out right now - however some people aren't used to accurate mouse usage and its overall gameplay
Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 Great for just mindless killing of Zombies, not something you can do for many hours though

Games to stay clear of

Modern Warfare 2 Fun at first - 8 months down the line you'll regret buying it Although Call of Duty 4 Is an Awesome game if you want to try that out.

MMO's
I'd suggest you check out EVE online. If you're into spaceships, spaceship wars star-trek style etc it may be the one for you. Its really fun plus you can try out a free trial for 14 day on their main site. If you want i can also send you a buddy trial invite which gives you a 21 day trial for the game, just pm

err, thats about all i can think of
