So, if I bought a new processor should I pay like 10-20 bucks less for the I7 920 or go with the I7 930? Do they both overclock easily? And also, whats the highest ghz can you get without any cooling? Probably around 3.6hz for both? And is 3.6ghz good enough for the current gaming?

920 = 20x multi

930 = 21x multi

They pretty much clock the same, most 920 users use the 19x multiplier since it's more stable. I am on the 21x multi though, and it's rock stable.

The advantage of the 930 would be lower BLK and higher clock speed vs the 920.

Edit: I think it's pretty well accepted that 3.8ghz is the point where you stop bottlenecking, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd get a 920 if it was cheaper. From what I've seen the 920's OC as good or better than most 930's. I'm running an old C0 stepping 920 and I'm getting 4.1GHz on 1.3 volts so with any D0 stepping chip you should be in the 3.8-4.2 range rather easily. To answer your question 3.6 is plenty enough for gaming seeing as how even the best games are designed with the fastest stock chip in mind which I guess would be the 980x at 3.33GHz

Both of my 920's have the 21x multi.

What do you mean by better cooling? Like from the stock cooling that comes with the chip? I've never seen anyone use the stock cooler so I have no idea what you can run with it.

I love my 930, oc'ing to 3.6 should be more than enough for gaming. Get a decent cooler to do it on air.

How many ghz can I get without cpu cooling stuff? Or do I have to stop being cheap and really get cooling?

"Turbo Boost" is not an actual multiplier. It will only clock ONE of your cores to that speed. Generally overclockers turn OFF turbo boost and will instead clock all 4 cores to that speed instead of just one.

So again.

930 = 21x Multi

920 = 20x Multi

You can't run a chip without a cooler. With the stock cooler I wouldn't overclock it at all. so yes you're going to need 50 bucks or so to get a cooler.

Whats better for cpu cooling? Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme or Corsair H50 Push/Pull. Or should I go with something completely different then what you guys have in your rigs?

Wow, things cost so much money now adays if you want something half-way good...

So, I'm going to need a cpu update, Motherboard update, Memory most likely since all the good motherboards only use DDR3 ram..., Case update, Cooler update.... Ridiculous... I'm probably going to end up spending a total of a grand on my new rig. And as of right now I only have 32 bucks...
