Fallout 3 messed up my PC.

Hey,

After a few months of not playing, I decided to re-install Fallout 3. It kinda messed up my whole PC, and I'm unsure what to do, and even what to google for for a solution.

My previous install was on Vista, and I'm not running Windows 7. I did a full reinstall, updated the game to the newest version and downloaded/installed the two DLC's I have. I played for a few minutes, and alt-tabbed out of it to look something up. Fallout 3, not liking alt-tabbing, didn't want to go back to the game again, so I have to ctrl-alt-delete exit it. I rebooted it, and I got this "Fallout 3 had stopped working" thing. The game does not boot at all.

And then it was messed up. Every icon in my bar's quicklaunch chanced into a Fallout 3 logo, and every not opened item there will actually open Fallout 3 (which immediately crashes). Do note that the description of the file is still what it's supposed to be (as you can see with Itunes). The same goes for my desktop. I have never seen or heard of this happening before, and I am quite frankly amazed.

I tried a reboot, and kinda can't think of anything else I can really do now. Suggestions?

It's a legal, non-steam version of Fallout 3.

Thanks, but didn't help I'm afraid.

Ran CCleaner, with "Thumbnail Cache" on, but didn't change it.

Did you run the registry cleaner? I'm curious, what does the "Start in" value say of the Firefox shortcut.

I did, and although it found a few missing shared DLL's, and fixed those, the problem persists.

Since you ran CCleaner, did you restart your computer? The icon cache might not update until a restart.

This is a rather interesting (and also funny) problem. Hopefully it gets fixed.

I did, and it didn't change anything.

Another thing, when I right click an icon on my desktop, and go to properties and click "change icon", it says, for example with Firefox, "Windows can't find the file %ProgramFiles%\\Mozilla Firefox\\Firefox.exe.". It does this with all of the desktop items that have been changed.
