Well, take your existing setup, replace the 500GB Blue with 2 (or more) higher-performance drives, such as WD Black or Samsung F3, and run in RAID-0. You can either short-stroke your hard-drives, or you can create a smaller boot array with the Intel Matrix RAID, which creates a similar effect to short-stroking. Both will, in essence, lower your access times for your OS, though not to the same level of using a SSD.

If your 500GB provides enough space, then just get a SSD for your OS & applications...
