Jeri Ryan explains exactly what the short was for:

More details are coming out about it. This morning, Jeri Ryan (playing Sonya Blade in the video), clarified via her Twitter account: "It's not a game trailer...was made for the director to sell WB on his vision for a reimagined MK film...I did it as a favor to a friend. No idea yet what WB's reaction to it was. And I'm not sure how you can contact WB...to push them to make it. But you guys are resourceful...!"

I think it was more of a short film for inspiration. I really hope they make this movie though.

The fact that it's made such a buzz online, it better become a movie! We honestly need a decent movie, there has only been complete garbage recently.

Lest we not forget the "Alive In Joburg" short which was the short that was the basis for District 9. Shorts are proof of concepts for ideas for movies. It wasn't a trailer, trailers are usually weak.

I was actually impressed by the short. I hope WB bites. I could use a fresh Mortal Kombat movie.
