Headphone Amp? - Page 3

I'll say this. For my headphones I needed an amp and got Scythe's KAMA-BAY amp. worked fantastic. You can mount it in a 5.25" bay or it has rubber feet for your desktop. I'ts like $60. Well worth it. Hope this helps some.

Rock, funk, electronica like Ratatat, some poppy/folky stuff. Basically things that involve a bass guitar as the low end so it's all about the mids. Suggestions?

How do those interfaces connect to your PC? Firewire? What sorts of drivers are involved, how is everything recognized?

Can you guys give me some suggestions on a ~$500 amp? I'm splurging on the k701's, officially.

Don't get the K701s. Light on bass, a pain to drive properly wise.
For rock and stuff, a Grado would be great (emphasis on mids, light on bass, comfort can be uncomfrtable but can be fixed with bowl earpads), for all-rounder the DT880 (particularly 600 ohm), for bass oriented, the Denon D5000....
The Ultrasone PRO750 is a bass oriented headphone as well but not extra heavy on the bass.

If you don't require portability / small form factor on the source, it really changes things tbh.

Plus the beyer 880's are cheap compared to the other headphones. As for amp, burson 160.

But how are you going to connect it? Your forte only offers the digi coaxial out that you can connect a all in one dac/amp to, not an amp only unbalanced out.

I do not. The stuff won't move from my computer area.

Also besides being a pain to drive, I don't see what's wrong with them. Every set of open back cans I've owned has been light on bass, that's just the nature of them, and I enjoy their character.

That's what I'm asking you guys lol...so I guess I need an all in one DAC/amp? What should I look for?

unless you get a audio card like claro or essence st you won't have unbalanced out for an external amp. what you're looking for then is a dac/amp combo, like i suggested, that connect out of the digi coax out of the forte, or toslink/coax out of the motherboard. You can also use usb, but the bit rate will be lower. But this negates the need for your sound card.

Just out of interest, is digital considered perfectly balanced?
