That's absurd! FOTM Dac/amps are always the best.
We are talking about the amp section only. Of course it will be. It's all dedicated circuitry vs. priorisation of the circuit board to the DAC over amping. Also Soloz is not talking about the entire audio chain, only specifically the amp section. Particularly at lower price ranges, a DAC will prove most beneficial. No point amping an average signal from a crap source with a nice amp. Yes, I dislike FOTM too (although tbh, the Musiland isn't that as it's still popular past the usual FOTM period) but your argument is flawed.

Uh so that argument gave me second thoughts again haha...is there some sort of agreement to be had?

It's too bad I don't have the power to convey sarcasm through interwebs.

All I'm saying is that even higher priced DAC & headphone amp combos prioritize the DAC and throw in a headphone circuit that is often no better than the equivalent of a PIMETA or mini3. Both are good amps, but certainly not as good as something that costs only a little more such as the millet hybrid minimax.

A DAC/Amp combo isn't a bad way to start, but don't be surprised if you end up with that dedicated amp sooner rather than later anyway. For the money, I'd personally go with a USB DAC and a dedicated amp.

It's all well and good to say "oh, you should do this instead," but again I'm new to this section of audio. I'd like actual product recommendations because I'm not knowledgable enough to just go out and get something. Thanks for any and all input.

then you need to do more research and try and go to a local head-fi meet or two. Everyone's ears are different and we can't magically know that will be best for you.

I see numerous suggestions here in this thread, read up about all of them and if possible try to go listen to some of the gear.
